This article is in progress and still being updated. Thank you for your patience!
After finishing Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (and getting my bookish hands on Iron Flame not long after), I fell into a binge reading frenzy. I devoured romantasy, fantasy, more romance, dragons, and spicy books in an attempt to quench my thirst for the Empyrean.
Happily, I found some GREAT reads along the way. In this post, I'll focus on the dragon-filled books. I've been reading primarily through Kindle Unlimited, so most of these books should be included in a KU subscription. 🫶 Happy reading!
⭐ Personal Pick
Okay, so this one isn't really similar to Fourth Wing at all except that they both involve dragons. However, I loved it so much that I just had to give it a shoutout . . .

Heartstrikers by Rachel Aaron
Hands down one of my favorite series of all time! (And if you end up enjoying Heartstrikers, check out the other two series Aaron has set in the same world, the DFZ and DFZ Changeling trilogies.)
Heartstrikers follows young dragon Julius, a very nice guy who isn't your typical scheming, conniving, ambitious (in other words, normal) dragon. After being sealed into human form by his disappointed mother, Julius must figure out how to survive the human world while proving to his mother that he does, in fact, deserve to be a dragon.
(And perhaps, along the way, he'll discover that being nice is much more an advantage than it is a hindrance . . .)
🌶️ If you want the spice
If you enjoyed Fourth Wing for the romantasy, you'll love these reads involving dragons and their mates:

Of Dragons and Fae trilogy by Jasmine Walt
Sometimes a touch is all it takes.
Adara is a mage who can't quite get mage-ing right, and Einar is a heartbroken dragon deep in slumber — the last of his kind. Dragons and fae are hardened enemies, but fate has other plans for them.
When a new threat to the kingdom arises, Adara and Einar must put aside their differences to work together to save the world they once loved.

Merciless Dragons series by Rebecca F. Kenney
When a horrific spell kills all the female dragons, what do the male dragons do? Why, capture some human women and attempt to turn them into dragons in order to procreate. (Surely nothing could go wrong . . .)
🐉 If you just want the dragons
AKA, where romance is either a secondary storyline or not there at all.

The Aurelian Cycle by Rosaria Munda
A satisfying but sad read.
Lee and Annie were children from very different families thrown together during a time of turmoil and revolution — one an aristocrat, the other a lowborn. Both lost their whole families in the upheaval. Now building a new life as dragonriders, their job is to protect their people by serving in the dragonriding fleet.
But when the threat of old foes and relatives arises, far greater sacrifices will be required from the two if they desire to see true peace in their time.

Dragonfell by Sarah Prineas
A sweet story about a boy's quest to search for dragons, the people he meets along the way, and the truths he uncovers.

The Dragon Guard series by Jada Fisher
Tennegan (Ten) Felter has always wanted to join the dragon guard. It's nearly unheard of for a servant to become a dragon rider, but Ten is determined to never let that stop her.
Other Awesome Reads

- Dragon Riders of Elantia by Jessica Drake

- The Dragon's Squire series by Jada Fisher et al.
