The good and the bad

I don't like rating any book under 3, but the writing structure was really frustrating and distracting from the main plot of the story. There were a lot of grammar mistakes, and at several points it felt like the story was just being "rambled out". I have no idea how it's rated so high on Amazon and Goodreads; I feel like I might've read a different version of the story. I honestly wanted to DNF, but I also wanted to see how things finished 😅

Besides grammar, there were also a few confusing points in which I wasn't sure who was speaking or which pronouns referred to whom. There wasn't much character development, the potential "love interest" showed up like twice only (and I wasn't even sure why he existed tbh), and some character's actions and reasonings didn't make any sense. We also never learn exactly what happened with the main character that caused her to move back home.

(But also, this was published five years ago, so I am hopeful that the author's more recent books are much better. I will have to give something else of hers another shot in the future!)

One the bright side, the mystery aspect of the story was quite interesting and kept me guessing at every turn. I liked the small-town vibes and characters, as well as the aspect of the paranormal, such as ghosts. I'd definitely like to learn more about how ghosts work in that world.
